The Echoplex preamp recreates the legendary mojo of the EP-3 preamp, following the same signal path with FET circuitry and gain control for up to +11dB boost.
THE LONG STORY
When the Echoplex EP-3 was released, guitarists were hooked by the way its preamp mellowed their sound. Soon, the EP-3 was making its way onto the records of top guitarists-from Jimmy Page to Eddie Van Halen to Eric Johnson-both for its tone conditioning ability and its tape echo effect. Now you can put the EP-3's legendary secret sauce right into your pedalboard.
Dunlop's Echoplex EP101 preamp recreates the magic of the EP-3's front end, with a field-effect transistor (FET) like the original and following the exact same signal path. The gain control allows you to boost your signal up to +11dB, with light unbalanced clipping at higher settings for some nice organic grit.
The Echoplex preamp runs on a standard 9-volt power supply and contains power management circuitry to ensure consistent reserve performance throughout the normal life of a 9-volt battery. With a rugged Phase 90-sized enclosure, replica EP-3 knob, true bypass switching and a status LED, the Echoplex preamp is designed to take a hit on the road so you can leave your fragile vintage piece at home.
