The Echoplex delay delivers the legendary sounds of the EP-3 tape echo unit with a high-fidelity all-analog dry path and simple control interface, including an age control to "age" your rehearsals. No tape cartridge required!
The Echoplex EP-3 tape echo is famous for its deliciously warm organic modulation and smooth musical voice, a key element of some of the most iconic guitar sounds of the 1970s. The original EP-3 units, however, are expensive, temperamental, and larger than a VCR. That's where the Echoplex EP103 delay comes in. It's the size of a phase 90 and delivers the legendary sounds of the EP-3 with a simple control interface and a high-fidelity all-analog dry path. The Delay control sets the time between repeats (from 40 to 750ms), the Sustain control sets the number of repeats, and the Volume control sets the output level of your repeats. But where this pedal really shines is in Age mode. By default, your pedal operates as a perfectly calibrated, factory-fresh tape echo machine - a clear tape with subtle modulation of wow and flutter. A quick press of the Volume knob allows you to "age" the sound of your rehearsals, darken the tone, increase tape saturation (distortion), and increase the modulation and distress of the tape as you turn the knob clockwise. The EP103's delay signal gets the same tonal conditioning that the Echoplex EP101 preamp provides, while the dry path is left untouched. For the full EP-3 experience, put this secret sauce on your dry signal by running the EP101 in front of the EP103. The Echoplex Delay also has tap tempo functionality, up to 4 seconds of delay time, when you connect an M199 MXR Tap Tempo switch. The dry path is quite analogous to Constant Headroom Technology - offering full 20 volt pitch - and a choice of relaying or bypassing real tracks. The EP103 can be set for 100% wet mode with stereo input and output modes. No tape cartridge required!
