Joe Bonamassa found a 1961 Gibson SG Special at a pawn shop while on tour in 2010, a pristine first-year example whose P90 pickups sparked his love affair with the format. Seymour Duncan and Bonamassa teamed up to replicate those soapbar P90s as the Joe Bonamassa “Pawn Shop Special” 1961 P90 Set, the Custom Shop’s first P90 collaboration with Joe. Built with Alnico 4 magnets and a custom wind, the set duplicates the airy top end and sizzle of the originals, featuring a historically accurate dimpled bottom plate and wax potting per Joe’s preferences. The “Pawn Shop Special” holds a unique place in Joe’s collection as item #001, the first guitar he cataloged. The first 610 sets include a Nerdville #001 inventory tag, a certificate of authenticity signed by Joe and Seymour, and limited edition packaging.
