The MEL9 is an effect pedal that emulates the mythical sounds of the Mellotron, a vintage instrument born in the early 60's, based on the principle of playing back sounds recorded on magnetic tapes played back in a loop, with as many playback heads as there are keys on the keyboard. (The Mellotron can therefore be considered as one of the first samplers.)
Widely used in pop, rock and progressive music in the 60's and 70's, the hypnotic and mellow sound of the Mellotron has conquered many bands, including the Beatles, Beach Boys, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Klaus Schultze, Kraftwerk...
Based on the same technology that created the B9, C9 and KEY9 pedals, the MEL9 sound engine features 9 of the most evocative sounds of the original Mellotron:
- Orchestra
- Cello
- Strings (string section)
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Saxophone
- Brass (brass section)
- Low Choir
- High Choir
- Can be used with guitar, bass (up to A string open) or keyboard (mono audio output).
- Works without instrument modification, no special pickup or midi implementation required, with full tracking of bends, slides and vibrato hits.
- Independent "Effect" (processed) and "Dry" (unprocessed) outputs
- Attack : adjustment of the sound rise time
- Sustain : duration of sound extinction after the note release
